Wind Mitigation – What’s Changing?

Starting April 1st, Florida rolled out a brand-new Uniform Mitigation Verification Inspection Form – and yes, it’s getting a bit of a makeover. But before you groan at the thought of more paperwork, here’s the good news: these changes are designed to give homeowners more clarity and potentially more savings.

The new form updates some of the key areas inspectors already look at, including things like your roof covering, roof deck attachment, roof-to-wall connections, and opening protection.

In simple terms? It’s getting more precise, more detailed, and more aligned with how homes are actually built today.

There are also a few new additions to the form:

• FORTIFIED Home™ certifications (Roof, Silver, Gold) now count
• Region-based wind zones are being factored in
• Roof slope is now part of the equation (yes, even that matters!)

One of the biggest shifts? Documentation.

Inspectors (like us 👋) will now need to provide more detailed, photo-heavy evidence for every credit claimed. That means clearer reports, stronger support for your discounts – but also a bit more legwork behind the scenes.

If we ask you for documents like permits or product approvals, it’s all part of helping you get every credit you’re entitled to.
