Recently, I put together a little brochure for some local doctor’s offices about mold exposure. Not the most glamorous topic, I know… but it’s one that comes up more often than people think.

Especially when it comes to young children, seniors, or anyone with asthma or a sensitive immune system.

Now before we go any further – doctors diagnose medical conditions. That’s their lane. Our job is something a little different. We look at the environment inside your home and help determine if something in the building itself could be contributing to how someone is feeling.

Think of it as medical work for your house.

One of the biggest clues we hear from clients is this:

“I feel better when I leave the house.”

When that happens, it may be worth looking at the environment itself.

It’s when people experience health symptoms linked to time spent in a building, but there isn’t one obvious illness causing it.

Sometimes the building itself is the culprit.

Possible contributors can include:

• Hidden moisture problems
• Poor ventilation
• Long-term water leaks
• HVAC contamination
• Damp building materials

One of the biggest challenges with mold is that it often grows where you can’t see it. We frequently find mold behind walls or under flooring caused by issues like plumbing leaks, roof leaks, window leaks during heavy rain, clogged AC lines, or past flooding.

Sometimes the only signs are musty odors or subtle moisture damage.

If multiple people in the same home or building feel the same symptoms, it’s definitely something worth investigating.

Prevention Is Always Better Than Repair

The good news is that many mold problems can be prevented with good maintenance. And a little prevention now can prevent long-term moisture damage and costly repairs later.

When we perform a mold assessment, we’re looking for the source of moisture first. From there we can test indoor air quality, measure moisture levels, and determine whether mold contamination is present.

Most importantly, we explain everything clearly and provide step-by-step guidance on what to do next if a problem is found.

Because your home should be your safe place, not something quietly working against you.
